Procreation in the Present Predicament

There may never have been a more inauspicious time in the life of the average denizen of the modern world to bring offspring to this planet. The present global situation seems to sufficiently reinforce the central antinatalist argument that impugns the morality of procreation.

Perhaps those willingly participating in unbridled propagation of children in these perilous days will eventually realize the implications of their imprudent actions.

Amidst rapidly diminishing human health, a deepening environmental crisis, unprecedented political and social polarization, rising economic challenges, and noxious synthetic chemicals inundating our food, water, and air, existence for many has become a desperate battle of survival.

The Mass Man has distinctly demonstrated his utter inability to skillfully navigate these tumultuous conditions — which are essentially a product of his making — let alone impart the vital navigational skills to his progeny.

Unless human “collective consciousness” elevates considerably, man will continue to wallow in ignorance, furthering his downfall.

While the Earth can support more than eight billion inhabitants, the current collective psycho-emotional-spiritual state of mankind that drives man’s ceaseless pursuit of trivial material possessions and ephemeral sensual pleasures renders the current population fundamentally unsustainable.

Naturally, parenthood is a profoundly personal decision; however, failure to consider the present predicament of modern society—a predicament to which the child will unavoidably become subject to from even before birth—is utterly irresponsible.

Thus I contend that conscious reproduction is critical for the wellbeing of posterity and the passing of a livable planet thereto.
